P & L SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES THIRD BETA RELEASE OF VERSION 3 OF ITS MESA SPREADSHEET

OLD AMERSHAM, 22 MAY 1998 -- P & L Systems today announced the third beta release of version 3 of its Mesa spreadsheet, for Apple's Rhapsody operating system, and for OPENSTEP for Mach and Windows.

Mesa is a traditional spreadsheet which combines a powerful yet easy-to-use icon-based interface with the features you expect from an Excel- and 1-2-3-compatible product. 3b3 is the third official beta version, fixing a number of bugs, and implementing a number of new features requested by users over the course of the second stage of the beta cycle, including:

Support for importing Excel files
Mesa will now import many Microsoft Excel files (*);
Speed enhancement
Considerable effort has been put into making the third release substantially faster than the second.
P & L's Technical Marketing Manager, Malcolm Crawford, commented, "With the addition of enhanced Excel support we believe that Mesa will be even more attractive to Rhapsody users." Reflecting on the recent announcements at Apple's World Wide Developer Conference in San Jose, he added, "We also look forward to providing MacOS users with a real alternative to Excel on MacOS X in 1999!"
